It really is lovely. I think they are the founders of the six major Sufi Orders, but I am not sure which is which. Do you know anything about the picture?
There is a similar composition which is very popular in today’s Sufi poster art in Pakistan, which attempts to identify these buzurgs as follows:
[clockwise from top left]:
1. Hazrat Khwaja Buzurg Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer,
2. Hazrat Ghousul Azam Shaykh Abdul Qadir Gilani of Baghdad, 3. Hazrat Sharfuddin Bu Ali Shah Qalander of Panipat,
4. Hazrat Sultanji Nizamuddin Auliya of Delhi,
5. Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganj e Shakr of Pakpattan,
6. Hazrat Qutb Sahib Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki of Mehroli, may God sanctify their secrets!
Of course we cannot be sure unless we could see the original Persian verso/border to this miniature.
I have this poster, and shall post it soon on my blog insha Allah!
Thank you Cyclewala for the clarification. A point to note is that the picture of Syedna Ghous al-Azam (RA) is almost exactly like one I have seen in the private collection of Hz Khadim-e-Mohabbat (RA). This is therefore a great blessing! Thank you once again for this beautiful gift.
most welcome bhai, another thing in favour of this ascription is the fact that the buzurg in green is obviously a Qalander! Altho’ I have read that Hazrat Sultanji r.a. used to shave his head.
Letting out secrets there Irving…..Thanks for bringing a smile to my face and now I’ve been reminded of the story in the Masnavi about the bald parrot and the bald dervish. Perhaps that’s something you can put up in future.
Thanks for a marvelous posting! I certainly enjoyed reading it, you happen to be a great author.I will be sure to bookmark your blog and may come back very soon. I want to encourage you to ultimately continue your great writing, have a nice weekend!
My partner and I stumbled over here coming from a different page and thought I may
as well check things out. I like what I see so now i am following you.
Look forward to looking into your web page again.
